Electric Voice Theatre: The Eliza Flower Recital 2026
Conway Hall, Main Hall, WC1R 4RL , [Venue Details]Join us for an informal hour of free-thinking discussion, music, and readings at the fireside of the historic Conway Hall Library in celebration of our cherished composer, Eliza Flower (1803–46).
This inaugural event explores the legacy of Flower’s collaborative friendship with the political polymath Harriet Martineau (1802–76) on the 150th anniversary of her death, and that of Flower’s natural successor at South Place Ethical Society, the prolific composer Emily Josephine Troup (1853–1913).
The programme will include a performance of Flower’s ‘Fellowship’ from Hymns of Modern Thought, which was first revived by Electric Voice Theatre at the Winter Carols by Candlelight concert last year. After the performance, you are invited to view Conway Hall’s displays of archival material, and view artist Elspeth Manders‘ original oil painting, ‘Garden of Heavenly and Earthly Nature’, which was commissioned for the project.
